GeoNumerics participates in the 55th Photogrammetric Week in Stuttgart
From September 7th to 11th, the 55th edition of the "Photogrammetric Week" ̶ the "PhoWo" ̶ took place at the University of Stuttgart (Stuttgart, Germany).
The Photogrammetric Week series was initiated in Jena, in 1909 by Carl Pulfrich as a “vacation course in stereo-photogrammetry.” In June of the same year Pulfrich sent out the call for participation in the German "Zeitschrift für Vermessungswesen" (ZfV) for the course, which took place from October 4th to 9th. Since 1973 the "PhoWo" has been organised biennially by the Institute of Photogrammetry, at the University of Stuttgart; from 1973 to 1991 under Professor Fritz Ackermann and from 1993 to 2015 under Professor Dieter Fritsch. Today, the "PhoWo" enjoys international recognition as an upgrading seminar and a platform for the exchange of experience.
This 55th edition of the "PhoWo" was a special one indeed, as it practically coincided with the retirement of Professor Fritsch who put together an exceptional scientific and technical programme under the title “Excellence in Photogrammetry, Computer Science and Geoinformatics.“ The full proceedings of the event are available as a printed book, and digitally on CD and on-line. The slides and a report by Professor John Trinder are already available on-line. (The next, 56th "Photogrammetric Week" will be held in 2017, from September 11th to 15th.)
GeoNumerics is proud to have contributed one of the invited article authors and speakers, Dr. Ismael Colomina, who wrote and presented the article "On trajectory determination for photogrammetry and remote sensing: sensors, models and exploitation", a survey on trajectory determination for photogrammetric and remote sensing applications with emphasis on satellite positioning, inertial navigation, timing, trajectory error modelling and trajectory optimal exploitation.
GeoNumerics (Castelldefels, Catalonia, Spain) is a research and development (R&D) intensive small-and-medium-enterprise (SME) company specialised in geomatics and accurate navigation.
The Institute of Photogrammetry (University of Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany) is one of the four institutes of the Department of Geodesy & Geoinformatics of the University of Stuttgart ̶ the Institute of Geodesy (GIS), the Institute of Photogrammetry (IfP), the Institute of Navigation (INS) and the Institute of Engineering Geodesy (IIGS). The Department is, in turn, part of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering and Geodesy. The IfP has been a leading, world-renowned centre for research and education for more than forty years. In this period, the IfP has, probably, influenced photogrammetry and its practice more than anyone other university or research group. The IfP organizes the international MSc GeoEngine and participates in the Bachelor and MSc “Geodesy and Geoinformatics.”
